What happens when we get to Madeira ?
Time for exploring. You really have not seen Madeira if you haven’t experienced the wondrous and thrilling landscapes of the island. We will be based at a marina at the very Eastern point of Madeira so will look at walks at this end of the island and make a trip to Funchal for fresh provisions from the amazing produce market. You can use this time as you like.
We will be loading with cargo in Porto for our brokers in Brittany, wine and olive oil. Once the ship is stowed and ready for sea and the crew are briefed we will be leaving this beautiful city for the island of Madeira 700 nautical miles away west into the Atlantic Ocean. If you sign onto this voyage you are signing up for a ocean passage (approx 5 days at sea) . You will be sailing in a watch system 4 hours on and 4 hours off.
The two watches will have a watch leader who is a member of our permanent crew. You will be sailing through the night, under the stars and planets and with the dolphins and flying fish. Hopefully we will catch some nice Tuna fish and see some great sunsets. Along with the highlights there will be challenge and grit and you may experience some heavy weather. Being at sea brings zeros and tens and you can’t have one without the other. You need to be physically fit, mentally strong and be able to live and work with your ship mates to sail the boat as a team with good spirit.
